Horween Leather: Brown Nut Dublin aka Chestnut Brown

About 6 months ago, we received a request from a customer who wanted a bespoke Russell boot - he wanted the boot to be built with full cork instead of the EVA foam we've been using to lighten the footwear and to make break-in faster.  The fun part of building this boot was ordering a leather we wouldn't have normally picked out ourselves.

We had a few sample leathers mailed to us, and our customer selected the Brown Nut Dublin leather.  When we received the hide of it, we knew this was going to be a favourite for others too.  The leather was absolutely gorgeous - what we didn't appreciate from the makers point of view was the amount of scarring on the leather.  This results in a lot of wasted leathers as we cannot use scarred up leather in the footwear.

Nonetheless, as we made a sample for the floor - orders for footwear in this leather has steadily been increasing and it's become a favourite.  It has a waxy feel and it is a lot more rustic looking and it shows off the natural grain of leather.  We are certain this leather will patina and develop into its own over time and use and we look forward to seeing this one come back for a resole in a few years.

By the way, if you're in the shop requesting this leather for your order, be aware that David renamed it Chestnut Brown!
